From spot consulting to a long-term SAP EWM partnership with Bechtle
Occasional support in the SAP EWM space grew into a long-term partnership over four years – culminating in the migration of eight warehouse sites to SAP S/4HANA.
The company
Bechtle AG is one of Europe's leading IT service providers. The company designs future-proof IT architectures – from classic IT infrastructure through digitalisation, multi-cloud, modern workplace and security to artificial intelligence and managed services – and operates numerous logistics sites across Europe.
Starting point
The collaboration between Bechtle AG and THEM Consulting GmbH began in 2021 with occasional support in the SAP EWM space. The first assignments covered short-term consulting, support for internal SAP consultants and the development of a cross-site template strategy.
Through continuous support on operational questions, optimisations and projects, a long-term partnership developed. The THEM Consulting team increasingly took on work in the further development of the SAP EWM landscape and accompanied both strategic and operational initiatives.
Deepening the collaboration
The focus was on stabilising and optimising existing processes and on implementing new requirements in the SAP EWM environment. A key building block was the development of standardised, scalable solution approaches enabling efficient cross-site implementation.
The already established and successful collaboration between the business, IT and project teams formed the basis for a deep understanding of the processes and the system landscape. That understanding was further expanded and refined in joint projects.
Joint transformation projects
An important milestone was the modernisation of the warehouse landscape in 2025: eight warehouse sites were migrated to a system landscape based on SAP S/4HANA. The particular challenge lay in a system landscape that had grown over many years and contained numerous customer-specific developments. THEM supported the project teams with planning, preparation, testing and migration, contributing the experience gained from years of SAP EWM collaboration.
